Presentation Topic: A View from Here: Asian Art at the AGGV

Presenter: Dr. Heng Wu, Curator

Since its founding, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria has been dedicated to collecting, studying, and exhibiting

Asian art. Through the extraordinary efforts of generations of curators,

professionals, and generous donors, the AGGV has formed a collection that

spans millennia and encompasses a wide range of artistic traditions across Asia.

In April 2024, the Gallery opened its permanent exhibition A View from

Here: Reimagining the AGGV Collections, which includes a dedicated

gallery space for Asian art. Featuring over three hundred carefully

selected works, the exhibition draws from the Gallery’s extensive Asian

art holdings. Organized by material and medium, the display invites

visitors to rediscover the fundamental enchantment of art—its

materiality—and to appreciate the distinctive qualities embedded in

diverse Asian artistic traditions.
