Some were operated by district associations, some by churches, some by political and other groups. While a few kept to a traditional Confucian curriculum taught in Cantonese, others branched out: drama, sports, domestic skills and western religion, sometimes conducted in Cantonese but also in English. John Adams, author of Chinese Victoria, will give an illustrated talk about the fun and games and trials and tribulations faced by the pupils within these schools and even the rivalries between the organizations that ran them. https://munrobooks.com/item/sdlCxkdmEKQFKbHr1vd9dg ![]() Biography: John Adams is a historian and author based in Victoria.
