My fascination with history and my late sister's interest in the book by Harry Livingston, Forgotten Men: Canadians and the Chinese Labour Corps, lead to my interest in this time period and theme. Approximately 40,000 Chinese men were shipped across Canada in a sealed train as they were recruited by British, French and Russians to provide labour support for the war effort.

What was the motivation for China as country and individual men to sign up for such a daring endeavour? What happened to them? How was history impacted?

Subsequently I read Janie Chang's book Porcelain Moon, a fictional account of a love affair between a French woman and Chinese man...so I found an actual love affair to share...

Come and find out more!
