Changing China

Have you ever wondered how China changed from a communist backwater country to a bustling, emerging super power, all in a relatively short period of time? Our upcoming speaker Mr. Pat Ferns, a renowned award-winning documentary film maker, has a pretty good idea how this occurred!

Mr. Ferns, recipient of The Order of Canada, first visited China in 1979 in the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution. His filmic relationship with China includes films such as China’s Hollywood and China: The Miraculous Transformation. Pat was instrumental in the rise of the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, soon to be recognized as the nation’s premier documentary industry gathering. He has worked with the CNEX Foundation as organizer of the CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum, which just concluded its eighth edition in Taipei.

We hope you will be able to join us on Sunday, October 29th at 5:45 p.m. at the Fountain Restaurant on 2680 Blanshard St. @ Hillside Ave to hear Pat speak about his professional relationship with China over the course of his career, a relationship which has seen gigantic changes take place, some so stark that we in the West often just scratch our heads.
